Overview

Mishima city in Fukushima prefecture suffers from a decline, as well as an aging population. In Furukawa’s workshop, titled Mishima Waraku, locals created ceramic talismans for family prosperity using pottery techniques from the Jomon period, supported by the Fukushima Museum and Hayato Honson district. By creating an opportunity for multi-generational people to come together through art-making, this workshop contributed to developing a new community after the Great Tohoku Earthquake of 2011.
