Overview

Furukawa was one of the core members of Giving Art Committee, which hosted Tokyo Independent 2019, an un-curated, submission-based exhibition. She created the Call-for-Entry poster for the exhibition, which doubled as her own submission. In total, 634 artists assembled with over 2,000 artworks at the Chinretsukan Gallery at the Art Museum of the Tokyo University of the Arts and mobilized about 7,000 attendees. For Furukawa, this act of hosting such an exhibition in contemporary Japan, which included administrative tasks and even cleaning up the venue, was a performance piece, and a work of art in itself.
